Kota weather forecast: where to find it and how to read it
Written by Kota Weather Editorial Team · Updated

Looking for the Kota weather forecast for today, tomorrow or the week ahead? The most reliable place to get it is the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the official weather service of the Government of India. This guide explains where to find IMD’s forecast and warnings for Kota, how far ahead each type of forecast can be trusted, and how to read the numbers against Kota’s normal climate so you can plan a commute, an exam day, a wedding or a trip.
We do not publish our own forecast numbers. The old version of this site showed an automated 3, 7 and 10-day list; those pages now lead here, because the official forecast and warnings are a better tool than anything we could rebuild.
Where to get the official Kota forecast
IMD website: mausam.imd.gov.in
IMD’s main website carries city forecasts, district warnings, radar and satellite images. Kota appears in the city forecast lists for Rajasthan. Look for the daily maximum and minimum temperature, the expected weather (clear, partly cloudy, thunderstorm, rain) and any warning attached to the district.
Meteorological Centre Jaipur
Rajasthan has its own IMD regional office, the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur. Its pages publish the state’s district-wise forecast and warnings for the next five days, the daily weather summary for stations such as Kota, and press releases during heatwaves and heavy rain. If you want detail on Kota specifically, this is the page to bookmark.
The Mausam app
IMD’s free Mausam app puts the same information on a phone: current conditions, a multi-day city forecast, radar, and warnings for your location. It is the simplest way to check “Kota weather tomorrow” before you set out.
Sachet alerts
The National Disaster Management Authority’s Sachet system distributes official alerts, including IMD weather warnings, by location. It is useful during the monsoon when heavy-rain or flood alerts can change quickly.
For heat, rain and storm alerts specifically, read our guide to Kota weather warnings, which explains IMD’s green, yellow, orange and red colour codes.
How far ahead can you trust a forecast?
| Forecast range | What it is good for | How much to trust it |
|---|---|---|
| Today and tomorrow | What to wear, whether to carry an umbrella, timing outdoor plans | High for temperature, good for rain chance |
| Next 3 days | Planning a trip or a day out | Good |
| Days 4 to 7 | Weekend plans, deciding which day to travel | Fair; re-check as it gets closer |
| Days 8 to 10 | Spotting a trend: heat building, cooler spell, monsoon onset | Low for exact numbers |
| Beyond 2 weeks | Only IMD’s extended-range outlooks, which give probabilities, not daily weather | Use climate normals instead |
In Kota, the biggest forecast uncertainty is usually rain. A thunderstorm in May or June, or a monsoon spell in July, can be forecast for the district correctly and still miss one part of the city. Temperature forecasts are generally more dependable, especially in the dry seasons.
Reading the forecast against Kota’s normal climate
A forecast number means more when you compare it with what is normal for the date. A 40 C afternoon is ordinary in May but unusual in March. A 12 C morning is normal in January but would be a cold snap in early November. Our Kota weather by month guide has the IMD normals for each month, so you can tell at a glance whether the coming days are typical.
Some rules of thumb for Kota:
- Above 40 C in the forecast: treat the hours from about 11 am to 4 pm as indoor time, carry water, and read our heatwave guide.
- Thunderstorm or “dust storm” in May or June: expect strong gusts, sudden dust and possible power cuts for a short while, often in the late afternoon or evening.
- Heavy rain in July or August: expect waterlogging in low-lying roads and underpasses. Allow extra travel time and watch for barrage-release announcements (see our Chambal flood season guide).
- Morning minimum below 8 C in December or January: cold morning, possible fog on highways, and train delays on routes from the north.
The 3-day forecast: for daily decisions
The first three days of a forecast are where it is most useful. Use them to decide what to wear, whether an early start is needed to beat the heat, and whether a trip to an outdoor spot such as Garadia Mahadev or the riverfront should move to a different day. In the monsoon, check the forecast again the morning of any river or gorge visit, as conditions can change quickly.
The 7-day forecast: for planning the week
A week-ahead view is the sweet spot for planning. It is far enough out to choose the best day for a family outing or a long drive, and close enough that the numbers do not move too much. Kota’s weather tends to run in spells: a run of dry heat, a humid stretch, then a storm. Look for the day with the lowest maximum and the smallest rain chance for your outdoor plans.
The 10-day forecast: for trends
Ten days out, weather models lose confidence. Treat the last few days as a direction of travel: is the heat building, is a cool spell arriving, is the monsoon about to set in? Re-check two or three days before you travel and you will get a much sharper picture.
Forecast questions we cannot answer
Some questions need the forecast and nothing else, such as whether it will rain on a specific evening next month. For those, the honest answer is to look at the normal for that month, then check the official forecast once the date is within about a week. If you are planning around an event, our Kota tourist season and festivals guide shows the typical weather for each part of the year.
The station behind Kota’s numbers
A forecast tells you about the next few days; the long-term record tells you whether those days are unusual. Kota’s official climate figures come from the IMD observatory listed as KOTA [42452], whose 1991-2020 normals are free to view on the IMD Data Service Portal. Our Kota weather station guide explains what it measures and how to read it. Two useful companions to a forecast are Kota air pressure, for anyone reading a home barometer, and Kota cloud cover, for the chance of clear skies by month.

Beyond the forecast: lightning, air and rain terms
Three related tools fill gaps the standard city forecast leaves:
- Lightning: the free Damini app from IITM Pune maps recent strikes and alerts you to lightning nearby; see Kota lightning safety.
- Air quality: the forecast does not include the AQI; use the CPCB dashboard, explained in Kota air quality.
- Rain wording: forecasts and warnings use fixed IMD terms for rain amounts; IMD rainfall categories translates “heavy” and “very heavy” into millimetres.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best source for the Kota weather forecast?
The India Meteorological Department. Its website mausam.imd.gov.in and the free Mausam app give city forecasts, district warnings, radar and satellite images, and the Meteorological Centre Jaipur covers Rajasthan in detail.
How accurate is a 7-day forecast for Kota?
The first two or three days are usually dependable for temperature and the chance of rain. Days four and five are good guides. Days six and seven are better read as a trend, so re-check closer to the date.
Is a 10-day forecast for Kota worth using?
For spotting a trend, yes: a heat spell building, a cool spell coming or the monsoon setting in. For exact temperatures or whether it will rain on a given evening ten days out, no forecast can promise that.
Why does this site not show the live forecast any more?
Our old pages displayed raw model data with automated advisories. We would rather send you to the official IMD forecast and warnings than repackage numbers we cannot verify. Our guides focus on the climate, seasons and safety.
Where can I see if it is raining in Kota right now?
IMD's website shows Doppler radar and satellite imagery that update through the day. During the monsoon these are the quickest way to see a storm approaching the city.
